The following individuals are believed to be at higher risk of harm from the use of cannabis and should not indulge in the use of cannabis without a doctor’s recommendation.
- Patients using other prescription medications
- Children, adolescents and young adults
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Persons with a personal or family history of psychotic disorders (ex. Schizophrenia)

There may be long term adverse health effects from the consumption of cannabis, including additional risks for women who are or may become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
The use of cannabis can impair motor skills such as driving and operating machinery. Persons who smoke or vaporize cannabis should wait at least 6 hours before attempting to operate a motor vehicle; 8 hours if cannabis is ingested.
